ECU Removal Guide

Disconnect the Battery

Before you start, disconnect the boat's battery to prevent any electrical accidents. Failing to remove power from the ECU (Engine Control Unit) can cause it to enter a factory lock state. If this happens, it can't be tuned and will have to be recovered by a dealer.

The ECU (Engine Control Unit) is located under the engine cover. It's a small, rectangular box with a wiring harness connected to it.

Common ECU Locations

  • L4 (4 Cylinder): You'll find it on the starboard side, toward the front of the engine.

  • V6: The ECU is typically located in the middle, toward the back.

  • V8: Look for the ECU in the middle, toward the front.

Unplug the wiring harness from the ECU (Engine Control Unit). To do this, simply pinch each of the connectors and gently pull them until they release. If you find yourself having to pull too hard, you're doing something wrong. They should come apart with little effort.

To start, use a 10mm socket wrench to take out the four bolts holding the ECU (Engine Control Unit) in place.

Tips for Removing the ECU

  • After you remove the bolts, carefully pull the ECU (Engine Control Unit) straight out of its bracket.

  • Be gentle to avoid damaging any of the wires or connectors.

  • To prevent losing the bolts, we suggest screwing them back into their original holes.
